What Was the Lunar Phase When Were You Born? (Part 1)
While the moon’s sign and house are key, its phase at the time of your birth can add another layer to your traits.
In astrology, there’s a lot to learn about the moon.
What sign and house is it in? What planets does it connect with? Is it out of bounds? Does it sit near the chart’s angles?
One detail many people miss is the moon’s phase at birth.
If you have a moment, find a moon calendar online that can show the phase of the moon on your birthday. Here’s one I like to use!
The moon’s phases are:
New moon
Waxing crescent
First quarter
Waxing gibbous
Full moon
Waning gibbous
Last quarter
Waning crescent (also called the Balsamic moon)
In general, people born between the new moon and full moon are more outgoing. People born from the waning gibbous to the dark moon tend to be more thoughtful and inward.
Let’s take a quick look at each moon phase and what it adds to your emotions.
New Moon:
The new moon happens when the sun and moon are together in the sky. This brings a sense of peace between how you feel inside and what you show others. People born at this time are clear and open with emotions. They often do well in relationships because of this. If this is your moon phase, you likely love to explore, create, learn and love—no matter what your moon sign is.
Waxing Crescent:
This phase comes after the new moon, as the moon begins to grow in light. If this is your moon phase, you’re likely kind, hopeful, and deeply caring. You enjoy beauty and comfort. You learn the most through relationships, which may bring both challenge and joy.
First Quarter Moon:
This moon is at a 90-degree angle to the sun. That tension gives people born now a quick, active emotional style. You might be alert, social, and good at solving problems. But you might also react too fast. Your main lesson is to pause and think before you act. Learning this helps you use your strength without creating conflict.
Waxing Gibbous Moon:
This moon is nearly full. People born at this time often have deep, complex feelings. You love to study and understand things. You see people, ideas, and skills as rich and layered. Your lesson is to accept that some things are just as they seem—and not everyone likes being studied. Respecting space in relationships is key.
In general, those born during the waxing moon love the outside world. They enjoy talking, learning, and sharing. As the moon gets brighter, it brings out more social and active energy.
In the next part, we’ll explore people born during the full and waning moons, including the waning gibbous, last quarter, and waning crescent phases.
May the stars guide your way,
