Your Inner Sun: Helios and the Light You Carry
Learn more about the star that burns the brightest for us.
In astrology, the Sun shows us who we are at our core.
It represents our identity, energy, purpose, and the light we bring to the world. It’s the glowing heart of your birth chart. The Sun is a symbol of willpower, awareness, and the spark inside that drives you to shine.
In ancient Greek stories, this bright power was shown as Helios, the god who drove his golden chariot across the sky each day. From above, he watched everything on Earth. In astrology, the Sun is like our inner witness—a strong part of us that never fades. It holds our truth and helps us remember our unique gifts.
To know your Sun sign is to begin learning about your true light.
Helios: The Bright God of the Sky
Many people think of Apollo as the Sun god, but in older Greek myths, Helios came first.
Helios was a Titan god who pulled the Sun across the sky from east to west every day in a golden chariot. Helios had two siblings: Selene, goddess of the Moon, and Eos, goddess of Dawn.
Each morning, Eos would open the sky so Helios could rise and start his journey. He was often shown as young, handsome, and glowing with light. He wore a crown with 12 rays, one for each month of the year. His eyes were said to shine like the sun, and he wore a purple robe while sitting on a golden throne decorated with emeralds—symbols of love, growth, and wisdom.
Because Helios could see everything from the sky, people asked him to witness oaths and help with truth-telling. He was seen as kind, noble, and full of light. An old text from Hellenistic times, called the Greek Magical Papyri, says of Helios:
“The earth flourished when you shone forth and made the plants fruitful when you laughed and brought to life the living creatures when you permitted.”
Helios reflects all the good qualities of the Sun in astrology: strength, joy, honesty, kindness, and the ability to help life grow. These are the same traits you can grow in yourself.
What the Sun Means in Your Birth Chart
In astrology, the Sun isn’t just about your zodiac sign. It also shows how much light, creativity, and goodness you can share with the world. It represents the leader, father, or king—someone who cares for others and uses their power to do good.
If the Sun is strong in your birth chart, you might feel like a source of hope or a natural leader. Some signs that you carry strong Sun energy include:
You have Leo in a powerful spot (like your Sun or Moon in Leo, Leo rising, or many planets in Leo)
You were born around sunrise (your Sun is close to the Ascendant)• The Sun is the most powerful planet in your chart (called the Almuten)
The Sun is your Guardian Angel planet
Other planets in your chart connect strongly to your Sun
If the Sun is important in your chart, it’s part of your mission to embody that light. That means being joyful, warm, honest, and true to yourself. Like the Sun brings life to Earth, your light can help lift others up—just by being who you are.
Connecting with Solar Energy
Even if the Sun isn’t a main energy in your chart, you can still connect to it and benefit from its strength.
One way is by praying or meditating with solar gods and goddesses like Helios, Apollo, Ra, Amaterasu, or Lugh. These deities help us tap into confidence, wisdom, and warmth.
Here are a few more ways to bring solar energy into your life:
Crystals: Citrine, Garnet, Sunstone, Peridot
Essential Oils: Orange, Cinnamon, Juniper
Incense: Frankincense, Sandalwood, Copal
Colors: Gold, orange, bright yellow
The world always needs more light. Whether you lead, create, teach, or simply offer kindness, your inner Sun can make a big difference.
Let Helios and the Sun inspire you to shine brighter, and to be a light for others too.
May the stars guide your way,
Aleks
